Summary

This grant opportunity offers modest funding designed to support public-benefit initiatives, particularly those aligned with equity, environmental health, or community strengthening. Organizations registered as U.S. public charitable entities—or those working under a fiscal sponsor—are welcome to apply. Both educational institutions and government agencies that qualify under recognized nonprofit status are eligible.

Available twice a year, these competitive funding rounds invite organizations that have never previously received support from this resource. Funding requests may go up to about $25,000. In past rounds, awards have ranged from a few thousand dollars at the lower end, through mid‑range sums like $10,000 to $15,000, up to the full maximum amount of $25,000. Recipients have used these awards for varied purposes—capacity building, general support, technology, professional development, and programmatic expansion—so the funds are designed to be flexible and forward-looking rather than applied retroactively.

Geographically, the opportunity is open across the United States and even internationally, although special interest lies in certain regions, such as areas within California and parts of the mid-Atlantic watershed. The intent of the grant is broad: to help organizations strengthen their programs, bolster infrastructure, or otherwise amplify impact—especially for groups working to advance equity, serve diverse communities, or confront systemic constraints on opportunity.

Applicants should anticipate that if a request is declined, they may have to wait a couple of years before becoming eligible again. Awards generally must be used within a year and they are intended for future project costs. The process aims to be straightforward, with guidance and templates available to support applicants at each step.
